Science for Humanity.
David Dolphin's Legacy.
Accelerating the commercialization of transformative scientific discoveries from the laboratory bench to the global market.
We empower Canadian innovators by funding transformative technologies in quantum chemistry, advanced materials, and bioindustrial science. Our support helps these technologies progress toward manufacturing, commercialization, and the creation of new jobs.
Mission & Vision
"We envision a globally recognized Canadian innovation ecosystem where breakthrough scientific discoveries evolve into thriving industries, driving sustainable economic growth."
Dr. David H. Dolphin
David Dolphin is a distinguished Canadian chemist known for his pioneering contributions to bioorganic and medicinal chemistry, particularly in porphyrin research and its applications in photodynamic therapy. His work has bridged fundamental science and medical innovation, contributing to advancements in healthcare. As Founder of the David Dolphin Foundation, he is dedicated to advancing scientific discovery, supporting education, and fostering global collaboration in the chemical and life sciences.
“As VP technology development at QLT and the founding president of the BC innovation council, I realized that expert advice and financial support, at the appropriate time, can make all the difference to the success of a particular endeavor. It is my hope for our foundation to meet the goals outlined in the mission statement and thus ensure that those we support achieve their goals.
I would like the foundation to ensure Canada maintains and expands its outreach to the scientific community and their continuing success.
My creation of Verteporfin and its development as Visudyne saved the vision of millions of people worldwide. This established photodynamic therapy as a significant medical technique. It has recently been found that Verteporfin inhibits fibrosis. Fibrosis accounts for nearly 50% of all human deaths. The possible future of Verteporfin, in the treatment of fibrosis, could be monumental!
I would like to tell young scientists “Get a good education and find a job, or challenge, where you can make a difference and where you’re smarter than AI”.
